In 1976, citizens of the Ridgeway community organized the Ridgeway District Rescue Squad. The Ridgeway Jaycees were instrumental in the formation of the squad, which was originally housed at the fire department. A 1976 Chevrolet Type I ambulance was purchased and later the squad acquired a 1965 Cadillac ambulance.
